Double Cleansing: Simple step for big impact

Back in the day, we always think that washing our face with water would be enough. However, with the skincare technology advancement, we have soon realized that cleansing our skin is way more complicated.

According to the board-certified dermatologist David Lortscher, M.D., “Double cleansing is a method of cleansing your face twice: First, with an oil-based cleanser and again with a water-based cleanser. It can help remove stubborn, pore-clogging and acne-causing impurities that can remain on the skin even after washing your face once,”

The Ellen beauty team also states that double cleansing is specially important for the night skincare routine as our skin has faced many environmental element ,such as bacteria, and dust, daily.

Without taking proper cleansing routine, the bacteria can create havoc for your skin.

How to do Double Cleansing correctly?

In the Korean skincare routine, we always recommend to use the cleanser to clean your skin before beginning to nourish your skin with other Korean skincare products..

For double cleansing, we always start with an oil-based cleanser  to breakdown makeup, sebum and SPF on your skin, then use a water-based cleanser to deep clean all the impurity away.

Most of the time, the oil-based cleanser would have more powerful ingredients which can clean tougher substances including cosmetics. However, these cleansers would be harder to clean thoroughly and the residues could promote bacteria development.

The water-based cleanser's ingredients are usually more gentle for your skin, and easy to wash off. However, most of the time, these are not strong enough to remove stubborn stuffs.

'This removes sweat, bacteria and old skin cells,' says Dr. Anjali Mahto, consultant dermatologist at the Cadogan Clinic. She also stated that 'A second round of cleansing will clean much deeper into the pores to remove any impurities.'

However, using double cleansing could accidentally wash off our skin barriers which would make our skin create even more oil to compensate of it. Thus, Tracy Evans, M.D., a California-based, board-certified dermatologist, echoes this and suggests double cleansing only at night—when you actually have dirt and makeup to wash off—to make sure you’re not altering the natural balance of oils and microbes on your skin.

Choosing correct products is also very important

For the Double Cleansing, we would highly recommend you to use the Cleansing Water Witch Hazel  as an oil-based cleanser and the Tone-up Glutathione Deep Pore Wash Cleansing Foam as an water-based cleanser.

This Double Cleansing method would be especially beneficial for acne & Blemish treatment as it will ensure that your skin is always clean.
